Replace New (Not Nested)
Overview
Replace New 1 is a specialized command for duplicating a selected component in your assembly, excluding nested components, by creating a new identical but unique copy. The new component is saved in the same folder as the original file and given a unique numeric index, allowing you to modify it independently from the original. This is especially useful when you need to make changes to a specific instance of a component without affecting other occurrences or nested components.
The index for each new file is assigned automatically to ensure uniqueness; for details on how file names and indexes are managed, see File Names.
Unlike the standard Replace New command, Replace New 1 only duplicates the selected component and reuses all nested components. This is ideal for scenarios such as copying a duct route that requires minor changes, or when you want to create a new assembly and replace a single fitting with a new fitting, ensuring changes to fittings in one assembly are carried over to the other.
Replace New 1 always copies component files to the same location as the original and uses the same prefix, maintaining organization and naming consistency across your project.
How It Works
- Prompts you to select the component you want to duplicate.
- Creates a new identical copy of the selected component, saved in the same folder as the original with a unique numeric index.
- Replaces the selected component in the assembly with the new copy.
- All nested components are reused and not duplicated.
- The new component can be modified independently from the original.
Usage Instructions
- Open the assembly containing the component you want to duplicate.
- Activate the Replace New 1 command from the toolbar or menu.
- Select the component to be duplicated.
- The command will create a new identical copy and replace the selected component in the assembly.
- Review your assembly to confirm the new component is present and can be modified independently.
Trouble Shooting
- If the new component is not created, check for file permissions in the original component's folder.
- Ensure the original component is not locked or read-only.
- Verify that the unique numeric index is applied to the new file name.
Examples
- Duplicate a duct route: Use Replace New 1 to create a new copy of a duct route for minor modifications, reusing all nested fittings.
- Create a new fitting: Replace a single fitting in an assembly with a new unique copy, allowing changes to be made independently.
