Replace New (Not Nested)

Overview

Replace New 1 is a specialized command for duplicating a selected component in your assembly, excluding nested components, by creating a new identical but unique copy. The new component is saved in the same folder as the original file and given a unique numeric index, allowing you to modify it independently from the original. This is especially useful when you need to make changes to a specific instance of a component without affecting other occurrences or nested components.

The index for each new file is assigned automatically to ensure uniqueness; for details on how file names and indexes are managed, see File Names.

Unlike the standard Replace New command, Replace New 1 only duplicates the selected component and reuses all nested components. This is ideal for scenarios such as copying a duct route that requires minor changes, or when you want to create a new assembly and replace a single fitting with a new fitting, ensuring changes to fittings in one assembly are carried over to the other.

Replace New 1 always copies component files to the same location as the original and uses the same prefix, maintaining organization and naming consistency across your project.

How It Works

  1. Prompts you to select the component you want to duplicate.
  2. Creates a new identical copy of the selected component, saved in the same folder as the original with a unique numeric index.
  3. Replaces the selected component in the assembly with the new copy.
  4. All nested components are reused and not duplicated.
  5. The new component can be modified independently from the original.

Usage Instructions

  1. Open the assembly containing the component you want to duplicate.
  2. Activate the Replace New 1 command from the toolbar or menu.
  3. Select the component to be duplicated.
  4. The command will create a new identical copy and replace the selected component in the assembly.
  5. Review your assembly to confirm the new component is present and can be modified independently.

Trouble Shooting

  1. If the new component is not created, check for file permissions in the original component's folder.
  2. Ensure the original component is not locked or read-only.
  3. Verify that the unique numeric index is applied to the new file name.

Examples

  1. Duplicate a duct route: Use Replace New 1 to create a new copy of a duct route for minor modifications, reusing all nested fittings.
  2. Create a new fitting: Replace a single fitting in an assembly with a new unique copy, allowing changes to be made independently.
